Building-Blocks of a 21st Century Digital Government

America's Economy

A mobile & tablet app that provides real-time statistics on the U.S. economy.

The challenge was to create technologically enabled, compelling moments that culminate in lasting, consumer-brand relationships.

The different uses for Census data are as varied as the U.S. population itself. The America’s Economy was the first app to present the public with economic data directly from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and Bureau of Labor Statistics. America’s Economy lets people use Census data to make decisions that impact all areas of life.

In designing the America’s Economy app, I envisioned a government product that provided intuitive and practical way for the general public to have mobile access to our country’s 16 key economic indicators; in real-time, through push notifications, and/or email updates. It was also important for mobile users to visualize this data in a number of simple ways, and to quickly analyze trends at a glance.

With over 130,000 downloads, America’s Economy has been lauded by the White House as a great example of the Federal Digital Strategy, and by Information Week, who named it a “Top 10 Government Mobile App.”
